We purchased 4 Frog Logs to put around our pool and have already noticed a significant reduction in wildlife in the skimmers. In fact, we have yet to see any frogs, lizards or mice etc. Very happy we made the purchase, would totally recommend and wish we had known about this product earlier.
We recently purchased a home with a pool. As first time pool owners we were surprised and saddened by the nearly daily drowned squirrels. Since adding our Frog Logs there have been no drowned wildlife. Our family and backyard friends thank you so much!!!
Great addition, highly recommend putting at least one of these in if not two. No more worries about squirrels falling in by mistake. They swim over to the pad and get out easily. A real life saver. For me , it is also a transition for the little tad poles for when they grow legs and are ready to hop out. Fun to watch them use it!
One of the first things we bought upon moving, well before the pool was anywhere near open. So important for anyone with a pool.
After installing in my pool I still had a dead chipmunk, lots of dead & dying large beetles, several dead frogs and tons of dead oe dying spiders. The frog log only appears to collect tree debris. But I will note it may have had other animals and insects get out between my daily cleaning of the pool.
Hi Nannette, thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear the FrogLog has not met your expectations. Your feedback is valuable. We want to help you reduce wildlife casualties as much as possible. Here are some thoughts:
1. When you have small mammals (chipmunks, mice, etc.) in your pool, the guidelines on our website suggest increasing the number of FrogLog units to reduce the distance the animals in their state of panic, have to swim to find safety.
2. Our guidelines also suggest that if the number of animals in your pool is significant, then using multiple FrogLogs is advised.
3. Many of the animals that die in pools are young and may not have developed full abilities to swim yet.
4. Frogs and toads can float all day but they will die as chlorine or salt water enters their permeable skin. So survival time does depend on the chlorine/salt levels. Small frogs will not last as long as larger ones.
5. Cycling the pump and filter off at night will reduce the number of animals that get drawn into the skimmer before finding the FrogLog. Also, the FrogLogs can be placed in front of the skimmer.
6. We like saving insects too. If you want to save more insects and spiders, adding multiple FrogLogs will help.
5. Finally- feel free to call if you want to discuss this further. 240-258-7723
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.
Hello. The sand, pebble plastic insert bag needs to be stronger plastic stronger zip lock. The velcro cover needs to be wider to cover the insert bag. The insert steps do not arch like the picture. Air tube velcro needs to be wider to secure air tube.
This is my 3rd order for these wonderful items. They save the frogs and toads that get into my pool and prevents contamination of thise that would have perished without thw FrogLog.
Great product (unlike some of the knockoffs on Am-*zon). Well worth the money. I bought the original a while ago (more than a couple of years ago) and the two I bought lasted through at least 3 or 4 summers! They finally gave up the ghost this year, but I'd tried to order something cheap - had to send it back as soon as I got it the mesh tore the moment I tried to put it in the pool. THIS is the product you want!
Doesn't stay inflated. Compared to the real original frog log, this version is a real disappointment.
This purchase was two new Frog Logs to replace the old ones we had that were starting to fall apart after a few years (thanks to the California sunshine :)). We haven't had any problems with little creatures getting stuck in our pool since putting out our original Frog Logs years ago and we did have a couple of incidents before that :( Overall, I highly recommend Frog Logs to anyone with a pool to allow animals that have fallen in to pull themselves out again.
Someone should do the analysis required to determine how many animals die in pools each year. Frogs, dogs, cats, innumerable insects … the list is terrifying.
FrogLogs help keep the death count down. Anyone who has a heart, and a pool, should get them.
Sadly the material fades over time and eventually disintegrates and breaks away from the climbing strap. The climbing strap however is sill like new. The product needs an update. I have 2 froglogs for 6 years now.
This item worked perfectly. Gives critters a chance to get out of the pool.
I have been using FrogLogs for well over a decade. I was so distressed when these little creatures would die and meet their untimely deaths in my pool so unnecessarily. FrogLogs has probably saved 100's of fragile little lives, from amphibians to chipmunks and more. And, they have saved me so much pain and stress feeling responsible. I LOVE my FROGLOGS
Seems like a good product. Only able to use only 2 months. Will see how it works next pool season.
We got this rather late in the season after fishing dead frogs from the pool, but it has helped a few so far. Other creatures have also used it.
I have 2 of these in my small pool. I find fewer dead frogs, but still find some :(
Hi Melanie,
Thanks for reviewing the FrogLog. Here are a few tips for using the FrogLog to get the maximum protection:
1. Make sure the back of the float is tight to the pool wall. 2. If possible, set your pump and filter to turn off at night when most animals are active. Most pool experts say that the pump only needs to run during daylight hours. 3. If there is a flow to the water circulation, place one FrogLog to intercept the water moving toward the simmer. 4. FrogLogs can be placed in front of the skimmer intake.
Finally, some very small toads/froglogs are highly susceptible to chlorine intoxication so they do not last very long in pool water.
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Rich
We have had frogs in our pool for years. Too often I would find dead ones and have to scoop them out. Since we put two of these in our pool, we have had zero dead frogs. Plus, they clearly enjoy sitting on it.
Pumped up the replacement bladders and inserted them in our aging frog logs. The exteriors are in excellent condition and the platforms bobbed on the pool surface all summer long. We had the usual frog and chipmunks visit, and no fatalities. Thanks!
Since we installed this product 12 weeks ago, we’ve had no mice or chipmunks die in our pool. Before we installed it, this occurred about every two weeks
We have been purchasing the original FrogLog for several years, and they work so well. Not one thing has drowned in our pool since we started using these.
Thank you for a good product at a fair price.
